Chiba route translation
- This is a complete translation of Chiba's love ending only. His other endings will be added later.
- This translation begins immediately after choosing Chiba as Yuki's Bell One partner.
- When there are choices in the text, the "correct" one is noted in bold and only that choice is translated.
- general note: Chiba often refers to himself with the pronoun jibun rather than the more common ore or boku. Jibun is an extremely masculine pronoun, often used by soldiers. We've chosen to translate jibun as "myself" for two reasons: first, to highlight the difference between Chiba's manner of speech versus that of the other characters, and second, because the feel of jibun is a bit less personal toward oneself (as you might expect from a character who sees himself as a soldier-type) than other pronouns.

Yuki: Where am I...?
Chiba: Asahina, are you okay?
Yuki: Was I... asleep? But why?
Yuki: If I remember, we came to the mountain...
Chiba: We found the house.
Yuki: That's right! You found a light, then...
Chiba: We met the old man.
Yuki: The old man who seemed kind of nice...
Chiba: So you saw it too?
Chiba: Then it wasn't a dream.
Yuki: It wasn't... a dream...
(Yuki: It wasn't a dream, it was reality, but the house is gone...)
(Yuki: And that old man...)
(Yuki: Old man...)
Yuki: B, but, Chiba-san! If that wasn't a dream, it was, it was...
Yuki: The phone?
Yuki: Yes, it's Asahina...
Kuya: I finally got through! I called several times.
Yuki: Sorry. I don't think there's reception on the mountain.
Kuya: That doesn't matter. More importantly, come back right away.
Yuki: What's the matter?
Kuya: The sculptor before. Nosu Kiichi. That address was wrong!
Kuya: That's right. The magazine we saw in the library was from 20 years ago.
Kuya: The Yamanashi address that Masatsugu sent you was where the studio was when Mr. Nosu was young.
Kuya: He moved after that.
(Yuki: I see. That's why he lived near Chiba-san's house.)
Kuya: That's not all.
Kuya: Mr. Nosu is already dead.
Kuya: Twelve years ago, it seems he was discovered collapsed in his home.
Kuya: He received a heavy blow to the right side of the head and died of a brain injury.
Yuki: He's dead...
Yuki: Th, then, that was, after all...
Yuki: S, spirits!?
Chiba: No. It's fireflies.
CG: Yuki and Chiba watch fireflies
(Yuki: Oh... but, Chiba-san...)
Chiba: It's beautiful.
Chiba: ...I'm fine, Asahina. I'm not scared anymore.
Chiba: It's beautiful.
(Yuki: It's beautiful, but like spirits...)
(Yuki: They look like human souls.)
Chiba: ...About that house.
Chiba: It was a house in the neighborhood when I was little.
Chiba: It was right next door to our house, so I went to play there often.
Chiba: Nothing about it had changed. The moment I went in, I knew.
Chiba: And I remembered.
Yuki: Remembered what...?
Chiba: Something that happened over ten years ago.
Chiba: That old man lived by himself in our neighborhood.
Chiba: I never saw any other family.
Chiba: There probably wasn't any.
Chiba: That's probably why he always looked after myself.
Chiba: When I went, there were strange tools all over.
Chiba: There was clay and scraps of wood. He let me play with them as much as I wanted.
Chiba: That's why I loved it and went over there every day...
Chiba: ...And then, that day.
Chiba: I found the old man collapsed.
Chiba: The old man was collapsed face-up.
Chiba: There was blood running from his temple, and he was surrounded by lots of sculptures.
Chiba: Right. That place.
Chiba: The same as Joker-sama and my mom... the right temple. That's where he was bleeding from.
Chiba: I didn't know what I should do.
Chiba: I called out to him, but he didn't move.
Chiba: Shaking, I tried touching him, but the old man was cold and stiff.
Chiba: His skin and lips were pale, and strangely dry...
Chiba: Only his blood was sticky and had color.
Chiba: I saw lots of those.
Chiba: Lots of ghosts covered in dark blood... the old man's blood.
Chiba: They looked at me...
Chiba: Those eyes that were all over, looked at me...
Chiba: So many...
Chiba: At first, I didn't understand what had happened.
Chiba: But soon I got scared and ran.
Chiba: I ran, anyway, I wanted to get away from there, and ran and ran...
Chiba: I don't really remember... what happened after.
Yuki: So that's what happened.
Yuki: That must have been... a shock...
Yuki: The person you had gone to see like usual, the person you thought were going to meet, was dead...
Chiba: ...That's right.
Chiba: That's why I had nightmares over and over.
Chiba: I felt those ghosts were always watching me... and I was so scared I couldn't stand it.
Chiba: I was scared both when I went outside, and when I was inside...
Chiba: But, one day.
Chiba: I forgot it all.
Yuki: You forgot?
Chiba: Probably, I was taken the to the hospital...
Chiba: I feel like several doctors asked all sorts of things.
Yuki: You mean something like hypnosis?
Chiba: Who knows.
Chiba: Myself doesn't know what they did.
Chiba: But when I came to, I had forgotten all of it.
Chiba: All of it, for good.
Chiba: I hadn't remembered it until just now.
Chiba: My fear didn't disappear.
Yuki: That's why, ghosts...
Chiba: The point is, I ran away.
Chiba: From the old man's corpse, and from myself's fear.
Chiba: I ran away, I was frightened, and the result was those ghosts.
Chiba: I completely hated myself.
Chiba: From the beginning, there was no such thing as ghosts.
Chiba: It wasn't any sort of prediction or future.
Chiba: Myself's fear deceived myself.
Chiba: So I just imagined invisible things.
Yuki: There's no such thing as ghosts...
Yuki: What was that before?
Yuki: We both saw it.
Yuki: We even talked with it.
Chiba: That's right.
Chiba: It shouldn't be possible to talk to the dead.
Yuki: After all, it was a ghost... I guess.
Chiba: Who knows.
Chiba: I wasn't afraid at all.
Chiba: No, that's a lie.
Chiba: I was scared.
Chiba: But that wasn't all...
(Yuki: That... may be true.)
(Yuki: I was scared,)
(Yuki: I don't know what's what,)
(Yuki: ...I didn't think he was bad.)
Yuki: ...Chiba-san, this is what I think.
Yuki: Maybe... that old man was sad, dying alone.
Yuki: So maybe he was happy when you found him dead.
Yuki: But he ended up making you feel really scared.
Yuki: He was worried about it, and wanted to do something.
Yuki: So maybe that's why he came to see you like that today.
Chiba: That's wishful thinking.
Yuki: But that's what I think.
Yuki: Since I don't know the truth.
(Yuki: That's how I hope it is.)
(Yuki: For Chiba-san's sake...)
Chiba: I ran away.
Chiba: Being happy, even though he was hated, cursed...
Yuki: I think he was.
Yuki: Well, it's lonely being by yourself.
Chiba: I wonder...
Yuki: It definitely is.
Yuki: Since the old man before smiled at the end.
Yuki: I'm not lying. I saw it.
Yuki: Chiba-san, when you declared you were strong, you weren't afraid,
Yuki: When you said you'd win, and you'd protect me...
Yuki: He seemed really happy.
Chiba: So he seemed happy.
Chiba: I see.
Chiba: I'm glad you were there.
Yuki: Me too.
Yuki: Me too...
CG: Chiba and Yuki closeup
Yuki: ...It's nothing.
Chiba: I don't think it's nothing. What is it?
Yuki: I'm kind of relieved, or rather...
Yuki: You smiled and when I thought you're really okay, somehow, the tears suddenly...
Chiba: Don't cry.
Yuki: Yeah... sorry. It's fine...
Yuki: I'm really glad...
Yuki: *sniffle* Yeah...
Chiba: Don't cry...
Yuki: Yeah... *sobbing*...
*Chiba kisses Yuki*
Yuki: Y, yes...
Chiba: You're crying and I don't know what to do...
(Yuki: He's going to kiss me again...)
(Yuki: Something's touching my lips.)
(Yuki: Something soft and warm.)
(Yuki: I'm... being kissed.)
(Yuki: I didn't run away.)
(Yuki: Even though it's Chiba-san.)
(Yuki: Because it's Chiba-san.)
Chiba: I'm glad...
Chiba: You stopped crying.
Chiba: You're crying... and I can't stand it.
Chiba: I don't want to make you cry.
Yuki: Me too...
Yuki: Me too, I don't want to see you in pain.
Yuki: I want to you to smile like this.
Chiba: I'm smiling?
Yuki: You are.
Chiba: I see...
Chiba: It's better when you're smiling too.
(Yuki: Chiba-san is looking at me.)
(Yuki: Looking just straight at me.)
(Yuki: I'm looking at Chiba-san too.)
(Yuki: Looking just at Chiba-san.)
(Yuki: I'm happy.)
(Yuki: I wonder why. I'm so happy.)
(Yuki: That Chiba-san is looking at me and smiling,)
(Yuki: That he's looking just at me,)
(Yuki: It makes me happy and makes my chest tight...)
Chiba: You saved me.
Chiba: Thanks... Asahina.
