sagimori kuya

student council vice president

The word 'worry' isn't in my dictionary!
Kuya is a lot like Yuki in many ways, with a positive attitude and a willingness to help others. He takes care of the school cats and doesn't mind the trivial chores that the student council is asked to do. He's fiercely loyal to his friends and goes to great lengths to keep in touch with many people. Despite his outward cheer, there seems to be something strange about him...

story intro

Kuya has been vice president of the student council since his first year at the school, along with the former president, Hattori Ninosuke, and the secretary, Takato Masatsugu. Recently, Ninosuke has gone missing, and Kuya has been frantically searching for him all over the school.

However, that doesn't stop Kuya from being thrilled when Yuki accepts the armband and becomes student council president in Ninosuke's place. Instead, he praises Yuki for diving bravely into an unknown situation. Later, we discover that it was pretty much love at first sight...

Kuya is very intelligent and well-spoken. He is fluent in 12 languages (Finnish, English, and Portuguese among them), and a top-class fencer as well. He's even beaten the European junior champion, but Kuya downplays that because it wasn't an official match. Despite his skill level, he isn't especially interested in pursuing high-level training. Rather, Kuya seems satisfied with living an ordinary school life with his friends.

personality

No matter how cheery you are, you'll never be as cheery as Kuya. He's charming and friendly, sometimes to the point of overkill. He can be so kind and deferring that people eventually end up thinking that there's something off about him, and a lot of the other students think he's weird.

Kuya's outwardly cheerful personality hides a deep loneliness and need for belonging. Because his family moved around constantly for his father's work, Kuya never felt like any place was truly home. He forced himself to become fluent in the languages of all the countries where he lived, desperate to make friends. But not even learning the language could erase the sense that he was an outsider in a foreign land. Still, he persists in maintaining those old friendships, sending dozens of emails every day to keep in contact with the people he met along the way.

Takato notes that Kuya keeps himself locked in a 'cage of kindness,' suppressing his own feelings and deferring to others in order to preserve his relationships.

Takato Masatsugu - close friend
Kuya and Takato met in their first year, mostly by chance - they ended up sitting at the same table in the dorm cafeteria a few times, along with Ninosuke. Kuya eventually proposed that all three become the new student council. Despite their different personalities, they get along very well, and Kuya is one of the only people who knows Takato's secrets.

Hattori Ninosuke - close friend
Ninosuke was the student council president before Yuki came to school, so he's good friends with Kuya and Takato. Unfortunately, Ninosuke often takes advantage of Kuya's kindness, expecting more and more from him without offering any consideration in return. Kuya doesn't seem to mind, though, and spends much of the game trying to find his missing friend. Ninosuke plays a major role in Kuya's route, especially at the end.

character data sheet

The following information is a translation of the character data sheet that was provided on the preorder bonus CD. These character sheets are more like lists of random notes than a detailed character profile, so don't expect this to be terribly coherent. :3

Please be aware that these are early development notes and information may differ slightly from the finished game.

personality

strong point: He's not discouraged by anything. He's normally optimistic and easy-going. He has a strong will and is not swayed by the opinions of others. Good natured.
weak point: One can't quite put their finger on it, but he's definitely out of step with other people.

Has a cheerful appearance. Can speak on a wealth of topics. Has a beautiful bearing. At first glance, everyone is charmed by him, but after spending some time with him, they start to feel uncomfortable and think "there's something off..."

He's a genius at languages but for some reason he can't communicate well. He is excitable and positive. He is vainly optimistic. He's always one note more cheerful than those around him. He is often kind to others, but it often becomes unwelcome favors.

Bright. Fun loving. Surprisingly hardworking. He doesn't dislike the trivial work given to the student council, such as cleaning, changing lightbulbs, fixing broken windows. A ready and able worker. He will do anything he is asked to do readily. He can express himself without words, but he doesn't want to. His mind is very quick, and he reaches his conclusions too fast for other other people to understand.

special remarks

He was raised outside the country because his father is a diplomat. He is from a diplomatic family and his grandfather and uncle are also diplomats. He's a genius at languages who fluently speaks 12 languages. He often makes his greeting in another language. The main character doesn't understand anything other than basic English, but well, he can at least tell he's beeing greeted.

He sincerely respects Chiba as his rival in swordsmanship. The sword scabbard he wears at his hip and his belt are handmade by himself.

personal history

Until he came to the school, due to his father's work, he's lived sporadically in countries all over the world for two to three years at a time. He has friends all over the world.

His skill in fencing is such that he's unofficially beaten the Junior European Champion. But since he never participated in the tournament, he's an uncrowned sovreign.

And, because of the environment in which he was raised, he spent a long time not going to school, but being privately tutored. So he can't help enjoying dorm life.

additional information (revealed in-game)

- He's very worried about the missing original Ace.
- He often feeds the feral cats at the school (the school cats), so they are attached to him.
- He feels gratitide for the main character for accepting being the Ace, so he is always on the main character's side.

additional information (not revealed in-game)

As he moved from country to country, he learned the country's language. The reason was that he wanted friends. Every time he went to a new place, he desperately made friends, so even now he has a lot of friends he exchanges email with. Of course he's on Facebook too. But in the end, no matter how close a friend, he ends up separated and estranged and he can't help being sad at that fact. He spent his childhood unbearably pained because in the end, he was not anyone's best friend. (But he's not disheartened by that, he always actively makes friends and sends emails even if they don't reply back. He sends out hundreds of Christmas cards. He doesn't consider that sort of effort to be an effort.)

But he's very happy that he is enrolled in school with everyone, and doesn't have to worry about moving since it's a boarding school, starting from the spring of his first year of high school. He has a strong affection for the school. To him, the school is his spiritual home. That's why he enjoys even doing chores for the school and he's more serious about the danger of the school closing than anyone. Also, he feels a great deal of guilt for not being able to help his best friend at the school, Hattori Ninosuke, who ran off.

In order to make friends, he's tried various sports, but he likes fencing the best. He is considered to have the talent to aim for top world ranking if he devoted himself, but he downplays that.

He'd rather praise others than be praised himself. Even though he could do anything by himself, he'd rather do things together with everyone. He's absolutely not concerned about what would cause a disadvantage for him. Therefore, he gets along with people who are self-confident, and people with bad intentions who take advantage, but there are times he ends up putting pressure on negative people just by being there. But since he doesn't have ill will towards that person, only Kuya one-sidely gets hurt. (Ninosuke is this type.) But for some reason, Kuya likes that sort of negative person. It's probably because he hopes that maybe if he helps them, he'll be needed, but he is unaware of his feelings.

Incidentally, since the main character is pretty self-confident no matter what he says (he doesn't think he's useless), he's the type who honestly feels good will at Kuya's good will.
