Chiba route translation
- This is a complete translation of Chiba's love ending only. His other endings will be added later.
- This translation begins immediately after choosing Chiba as Yuki's Bell One partner.
- When there are choices in the text, the "correct" one is noted in bold and only that choice is translated.
- general note: Chiba often refers to himself with the pronoun jibun rather than the more common ore or boku. Jibun is an extremely masculine pronoun, often used by soldiers. We've chosen to translate jibun as "myself" for two reasons: first, to highlight the difference between Chiba's manner of speech versus that of the other characters, and second, because the feel of jibun is a bit less personal toward oneself (as you might expect from a character who sees himself as a soldier-type) than other pronouns.

CG: Chiba practicing
Yuki: I wonder if Chiba-san's okay...
Chiba: ...
(Yuki: It's been three days since that incident with the ghost costume.)
(Yuki: Chiba-san's been acting weird since then.)
(Yuki: Joker-san wasn't badly hurt.)
(Yuki: But...)
Chiba: Urk...
(Yuki: He's trembling... And his face is pale.)
Yuhara: Captain, do your best...!
kendo club member 1: Shh.
Chiba: Ugh...
*clatter*
end CG
Yuki: Oh.
Chiba: ...
Yuki: Chiba-san!
kendo club advisor: Wait, Chiba!
(Yuki: He left...)
kendo club member 1: The captain dropped the bamboo sword...
Yuhara: What happened, captain?
kendo club member 2: What should we do? Chase after him?
kendo club member 1: Even if we chase him, it'll just make it hard for the captain.
kendo club member 2: But it's already been three days, three days. Forget kakari-geiko, he can't even do practice swings... [note!]Short, intense, attack practice which teaches continuous alertness and readiness to attack, as well as building spirit and stamina. (from Wikipedia - Kendo#Modern_practice)
kendo club member 2: It's too awful, having a slump now. The inter-high is coming up. What's he trying to do!?
kendo club member 1: What's with you? Think about the person who's most worried. It's definitely the captain, right?!
kendo club member 1: Putting it that way...
kendo club member 2: I know that.
kendo club member 2: Really... I can't stand seeing it...
Yuki: ...
Yuhara: Hey, Ace. Do you know anything about the reason for captain Chiba's slump?
Yuki: Sorry...
Yuhara: After all, I guess it must be about kendo.
Yuki: ...
(Yuki: I have an idea, but,)
(Yuki: I can't say it... I guess...)
(Yuki: But... it can't stay like this.)
(Yuki: Everyone in the kendo club is worried.)
(Yuki: Me too...)
Yuki: I'll be right back.
Yuki: I'll try talking to Chiba-san.
Yuhara: Thanks! I'm counting on you.
kendo club member 3: Because Chiba is that kind of guy, he'd never complain to us, but I think it would be different with you.
Yuhara: Sorry to involve you, even though you're not in the kendo club.
Yuki: That doesn't matter. I'm worried about Chiba-san too.
Yuki: Well, I don't know if I can help, though...
Yuki: Anyway, leave Chiba-san to me for now, and you guys continue practicing.
Yuki: The time before the inter-high is really important. I think Chiba-san would say to do your own practice rather than worry about someone else.
Yuhara: I'm sure the captain would...
kendo club advisor: Sorry, Asahina. Take care of Chiba.
kendo club member 3: If there's anything we can do, we'll help.
Yuki: Yeah!
(courtyard)
Yuki: Where did he go?
(Yuki: Chiba-san...)
(Yuki: Since that incident with the ghost costume, Chiba-san hasn't swung his bamboo sword.)
(Yuki: He tries so desperately, but he drops the bamboo sword like today, or his hands shake and he can't even hold it.)
(Yuki: He's been carrying the wooden sword he always has on him the whole time like a charm, but I haven't seen him ready it even once.)
(Yuki: And he hasn't been talking much. Even when I ask him something, he's distracted.)
(Yuki: Even though the inter-high is coming up. Even though he worked so hard.)
(Yuki: His mind seems like it's elsewhere, and it's just like Chiba-san is the one who's a ghost...)
Yuki: ...
Yuki: That's not true.
(Yuki: Why did he get like that? Because he saw a ghost?)
(Yuki: But even Chiba-san knows that it was a plot by Joker-san and Okaken.)
(Yuki: Then is it because he hurt Joker-san?)
(Yuki: But the injury wasn't bad.)
(Yuki: It was like an accident, but if I had to say, it was Joker-san's fault.)
(Yuki: Chiba-san didn't have to feel so responsible.)
(Yuki: But... is it different for Chiba-san?)
(Yuki: He can't forgive himself for raising his sword against Joker-san... or something?)
(Yuki: Since it's Chiba-san, that might be possible...)
Yuki: But he won't tell me anything.
(Yuki: Even Joker-san is worried.)
(Yuki: ...But.)
(flashback)
Joker: Well, I'm worried about Hayato but, then, what am I supposed to do about it?
Joker: Anyway, this is Hayato's problem.
Joker: In the end, there's no point unless he solves it himself, right?
Yuki: That may be true, but...
Yuki: That's doesn't mean that we shouldn't do anything about it!!
Yuki: Even if Chiba-san does solve it himself, when would that be?
Yuki: There's only one month left until the inter-high. What will happen if it's not in time?
(Yuki: Besides...)
Yuki: I can't leave Chiba-san like that...
(Yuki: I don't even have the right to be mad at Joker-san.)
(Yuki: Since it's because of what I told him.)
(Yuki: Even though I promised not to tell anyone. I should have been more careful...)
(Yuki: I want to know what Chiba-san is thinking about, what he's worrying about.)
(Yuki: I want to help him...)
Yuki: Oh, there he is!
Yuki: Chiba-san!
(behind the school building)
Yuki: I found you...
Chiba: ...
Yuki: Chiba-san?
Yuki: Um, Chiba-san...
Yuki: Chiba-san!
Chiba: ...Asahina?
Yuki: Right.
Chiba: Ah...
(Yuki: Even though I called out to him so loudly...)
(Yuki: Get a grip! How is hesitating going to help!?)
Yuki: Um, Chiba-san! Joker-san's wound is almost completely healed, he said.
Chiba: ...
Yuki: He said it won't leave a scar, so I don't think it's something you have to worry about so much.
Yuki: Joker-san is worried about you too.
Chiba: ...
Yuki: He's really okay!
Yuki: So you don't have to feel so guilty...
Chiba: ...That's not it.
Yuki: Chiba-san?
Chiba: That's not it.
Yuki: Then, just what...?
Chiba: ...
Yuki: Chiba-san!
Chiba: It's...
Chiba: It's... I feel like it's a curse.
Yuki: A curse?
Yuki: No way...
Chiba: No...
Chiba: It happened before too.
Chiba: I thought I saw it, and lost my head...
Chiba: When I came to, my mom was collapsed, bleeding.
Yuki: Huh!?
Chiba: I blindly pushed her and hit her somewhere, then...
Chiba: My mom still has the scar on her temple.
Chiba: It's the exact same place as Joker-sama.
Yuki: Same place...
Yuki: That's just a coincidence!
Yuki: Chiba-san, you're worrying about it too much!!
Chiba: But it's always the same.
Chiba: I always cause a wound on the temple.
Chiba: Even in my dreams...
Yuki: Dreams?
Chiba: I've had this dream over and over for a long time.
Chiba: The right temple... bleeding from there, collapsed.
Chiba: My mom, Joker-sama, the people I've fought before, my master.
Chiba: People I know, people I don't know... even you.
Yuki: Me?
Chiba: Yeah.
Chiba: ...And everyone turns into that.
Chiba: Into that white ghost.
Chiba: They turn into that and stare at me from dark places.
Chiba: Those empty holes watching me.
Chiba: Saying you're next.
Chiba: Saying you're going to die like this too.
Yuki: Oh no, die...
Chiba: Over and over, I have that dream.
Yuki: Chiba-san...
(Yuki: A curse...)
(Yuki: I think that's ridiculous, but he won't believe me.)
(Yuki: But Chiba-san believes it.)
(Yuki: He's ended up believing it.)
(Yuki: That's why has has that dream...)
Chiba: Even now...
Chiba: I feel like they're watching me from somewhere.
Yuki: They are not!
Yuki: There's no one watching you. There's no such thing.
Yuki: It's all, all in your imagination!
Chiba: Right. My imagination.
Chiba: You're right, it's my imagination.
Chiba: My imagination. My imagination. My imagination.
Chiba: But...
Chiba: ...Is it really?
Chiba: Don't you sense something? ...Some glance.
Yuki: ...!
Yuki: I don't!
Yuki: There's no such thing as ghosts! There's no one watching us.
Yuki: You and I are the only ones here.
Yuki: There's nothing else!
Chiba: ...That's right.
Chiba: I'm sure you're right.
Yuki: Chiba-san...
Chiba: Tell me.
Chiba: How do I believe there's no such thing?
Chiba: How do I fight an intangible fear!? How do I beat it!?
Chiba: Myself is afraid of it.
Chiba: So afraid I can't stand it.
Chiba: And... embarrassed.
Chiba: More than I regret hurting others... hurting people dear to myself.
Chiba: More than that, myself is afraid of my death.
Chiba: Afraid of what happens after death.
Chiba: It's embarrassing, pathetic, I can't stand myself's weakness of being afraid of that...
Chiba: Look, Asahina.
Yuki: Your hand?
Yuki: ...It's trembling.
Chiba: That's right.
Chiba: It's shaking so much you can clearly tell just by looking.
Chiba: Myself can't even stop it.
Chiba: I'm so afraid.
Chiba: Myself is...
Chiba: Not even feeling remorse for hurting Joker-sama...
Chiba: It's just, just fear!!
Chiba: You told me before.
Chiba: If I don't give up, someday I'll win.
Yuki: Yes...
Chiba: But, myself is...
Chiba: Myself is already...
(Yuki: Chiba-san is so sad.)
(Yuki: Afraid, feeling pathetic, that's why...)
(Yuki: But is it a curse?)
(Yuki: That's not possible.)
(Yuki: It can't be!)
(Yuki: But somehow, I have a really bad feeling.)
(Yuki: Things can't stay like this.)
(Yuki: I have to do something.)
(Yuki: Is there something I can do?)
(Yuki: How can I help Chiba-san...?)
Kuya: Heeey!
Yuki: Kuya-san?
Chiba: *gasp*...
Kuya: We finally found it.
Kuya: The ghost that Chiba-sempai saw! Masatsugu remembered where he saw it!
Yuki: Huh!!?
Chiba: He saw it? Where!?
Kuya: In the library! Let's go!
Chiba: ...
Yuki: Chiba-san...
Yuki: Let's go! You have to go!
Yuki: It's okay. It'll definitely be alright.
Yuki: I'm sure.
Chiba: Y, yeah...
Chiba: ...Alright.
(library)
Takato: I remembered.
Takato: I was sure I had a memory of seeing something similar in an article from an art magazine.
Yuki: Which one!?
Takato: Well...
Takato: I'm sure I saw it in this magazine.
Takato: But which issue...
Takato: The back issues are all here, so I think that if we look systematically, we'll definitely find it.
Kuya: The magazines go from this shelf to that shelf.
Takato: There are 45 years' worth of monthly issues, so there are roughly over 500 volumes.
Yuki: 500 volumes...
Yuki: But you saw that white ghost in one of them, right?
Takato: Yes.
Yuki: Then I'll definitely find it.
Kuya: I'll help too! Masatsugu.
Takato: Naturally, I'll look with you. Kuya, please start with the older volumes.
Yuki: Then, I'll go backwards from the new volumes!
Kuya: Why! If we all look, we'll find it in no time!
Chiba: ...
(Yuki: I hope so, but...)
*time passes*
Yuki: It's not here. This one is wrong too. And this one...
Kuya: It's not in this row! I've even finished the 1950's.
Takato: Then, please continue with that shelf.
Yuki: This is taking longer than I thought...
(Yuki: Is it really here? Maybe Takato-san misremembered...)
(Yuki: Anyway, why would there be a ghost in an art magazine?)
Kuya: Yuki, Yuki.
Yuki: Yes?
Kuya: Has Chiba-sempai been like that the whole time?
Yuki: Yeah...
(Yuki: He's out of it again...)
(Yuki: I guess he's scared. Or...)
(Yuki: Cursed...)
Kuya: I don't like seeing Chiba-sempai like that.
Yuki: Yeah...
Kuya: But, I guess it was Chiba-sempai who saw the ghost you were talking about.
Kuya: If you told us that from the beginning, Masatsugu would have gotten more serious about it earlier.
Yuki: Sorry. It's because Chiba-san told me he didn't want anyone to know.
Kuya: I see. So seeing a ghost is bad.
Yuki: To Chiba-san, it's very bad.
Kuya: Hey, Yuki. If we find that ghost, do you think Chiba-sempai will go back to normal?
Yuki: I don't know.
Yuki: But it's something related. I think it could be a clue.
Yuki: ...Probably.
Yuki: I'm sorry, making you help with something so vague.
Yuki: But that's the only thing I could think of doing right now...
Yuki: I wanted to help Chiba-san, but that's all...
Kuya: I see.
Kuya: Then we have to hurry and find it!
Kuya: Hang in there, Yuki. What'll happen if even you get depressed?
Yuki: Kuya-san...
Yuki: Yeah, you're right.
Kuya: Good. Try pulling out a volume at random from over there.
Kuya: Test your luck.
Yuki: Test my luck?
Kuya: Since you have good luck, you may suddenly pull the right one!
Yuki: I wonder if it would really work that well.
Yuki: But... I'll try it.
(Yuki: I'll believe in my luck.)
(Yuki: Since they both have no form, Chiba-san's 'curse' and my 'luck' are the same.)
(Yuki: Then I'll win.)
(Yuki: The strength of my luck is unbeatable. I won't lose to the likes of Chiba-san's curse.)
(Yuki: I'll definitely show you!!)
Yuki: There, this one.
(Yuki: Please, luck...)
CG: magazine article
Yuki: Hm? This...
Yuki: There it is...! It was here! Chiba-san!
Yuki: Look! Here!!
Yuki: The ghosts are here! There's a picture of them.
Chiba: This is it...
end CG
Kuya: So these are the ghosts Chiba-sempai saw.
Takato: This is the picture I remember.
Yuki: But these are sculptures.
Chiba: ...Who made something like this?
Yuki: The sculptor is, um...
Takato: Nosu Kiichi. Born in 1936, residing in Yamanashi prefecture.
Yuki: Chiba-san, do you know him?
Chiba: No.
Chiba: Anyway, I've never been to Yamanashi.
Yuki: But these sculptures look just like the ghosts you saw.
Chiba: Right. It's definitely these.
Chiba: But, why...?
Kuya: I'm sure the sculptor saw the same thing that Chiba-sempai did!
Takato: In that case, it would make sense.
Chiba: He saw what myself saw too...
Chiba: ...
Chiba: I'm going out!
Yuki: Chiba-san!? Please wait! I'll go too!!
Kuya: Oh, hey!
Kuya: They left.
Takato: Such impatient people.
*click*
Kuya: What are you taking a picture of?
Takato: It's the address of Mr. Nosu, who made the sculptures. I'll forward it to Asahina's phone.
Kuya: That's a good idea!
Kuya: Yuki and Chiba-sempai only saw Yamanashi and ran off.
Takato: I'll send notice that they're spending the night out.
Kuya: I'll leave it to you.
Kuya: Still, that's his luck for you. Pulling it out on the first try...
Kuya: Hm?
Takato: Is something the matter?
Kuya: No. Masatsugu. I just realized...
Kuya: How old is this magazine?
Takato: Huh?
